Dean Welcome
Welcome to Faculty of Sociology and Community Development
I invite you on behalf of all my colleagues to explore the great learning possibilities we offer in the Faculty of Sociology and Community Development (FSCD). Currently, the FSCD comprises five disciplines: economic science, agriculture economics, law, community development and psychology.
FSCD represents a community proud of its history and continuously engaged in striving to become a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research. We are committed to building a premier higher education institution in the northwestern region that nurtures the responsible leaders of tomorrow who believe they can make a difference not only within their respective community but also within the broader societal context with their sound education foundation coupled with their core values and ethics.
At FSCD we believe our greatest asset is our people. We believe in diversity to drive our future. Our talented students are our inspiration. Thus, our accomplished faculty represents our dedication to bringing leading edge knowledge and learning to the classroom, and our support staff work tirelessly to provide state-of-the-art facilities to our faculties, researchers, staff and students.
Since the success of our students is our pride, we are currently implementing a 6-year education improvement project loaned by the World Bank to invest in development in infrastructure (i.e. learning and teaching facilities and environment, new buildings, research facilities, library, private study areas, etc), curriculum reforms, education and governance systems so that we continue to deliver our promise to our students, community and society at large.
We take great pride in the success and accomplishment of each and every individual. There has never been a better time for you to join our FSCD community as we strive to accomplish more with a continuously evolving curriculum to help our students stay relevant to meet the demands of tomorrow’s workforce, and as we encourage our faculty to raise our research profile in areas which support the development of the northwestern region.
Therefore, I invite you to join with us in our pursuit of excellence and our desire for scholarly distinction.
