Battambang, February 5, 2025 – Tania Meyer, Country Manager of the World Bank to Cambodia, led a high-level delegation on an official visit to the National University of Battambang (NUBB) as part of her 100-day office plan. She was accompanied by H.E. Sann Vathana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, and Director of the Higher Education Improvement Project (HEIP), along with his delegation.
The visit aimed to assess the support provided by HEIP to NUBB, review key project outcomes, evaluate the demand for a potential HEIP2, and discuss the university’s future strategic direction.
During her visit, Ms. Meyer toured the STEM Building, where she observed laboratories and classrooms established under the HEIP initiative. She engaged in discussions with students about their academic majors, aspirations, and career prospects, while also exchanging insights with faculty members on academic activities and teaching methodologies.
She was particularly impressed by the growing participation of female students in Computer Science, specializing in coding and programming, as well as Agriculture and Food Processing. Additionally, she commended the inspiring journey of female lecturers who transitioned from high school educators to university faculty members at NUBB, highlighting their dedication and contributions to higher education.
Ms. Meyer expressed her appreciation for the tangible impact of HEIP implementation, particularly in expanding educational opportunities under the leadership of H.E. SOK Khorn, Rector of NUBB. She reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting higher education development in NUBB and strengthening collaboration for future initiatives.
Notably, HEIP has significantly contributed to NUBB’s growth and reputation. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the university has a total of 7,631 students. NUBB is recognized as the leading public university in Northwestern Cambodia, earning the trust and confidence of students, parents, and the publics.
